Guest Blogging Guidelines

Interested in posting on Search Engine Marketing Group’s blog? While I’m a big supporter of guest posting, I want to ensure my blog’s content remains as useful as possible.

To simplify the submission process, I’ve assembled this page. If you use everything below to produce a post that’s useful, interesting or entertaining, there’s a very good chance it will be published!

Preferred Post Subjects

Since SEO and social media are my blog’s primary focus, the best topics for submission are:

  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Link Building Tips or Strategies
  • SEO for Small Business
  • Local SEO Tips or Strategies
  • Social media Tips or Strategies
  • PPC Campaign Strategies
  • General Blogging Tips
  • Internet Marketing Ideas
  • Guest Blogging Strategies

6 Reasons to Submit a Guest Post

  • Social Media Synergy: I will personally promote your guest post within my social networks
  • Reach a new audience
  • Diversify your social network and reach
  • Meet new people and network within the comments
  • The potential to increase your RSS subscribers
  • 2 to 3 byline links (see “The Fine Print” below)

Examples of Quality Guest Posts

The Fine Print

  • Your post must be original. AKA, don’t grab an old post or someone else’s work and submit it to be republished on my blog.
  • As a rule of thumb, posts should be at least 750 words.
  • After you post is published, please interact with commenters for a reasonable amount of time. If you don’t, I’ll keep your post up but remove the byline links. I think this is a fair trade. My friend Kristi agrees.
  • If your post is an obvious link grab, don’t expect to see it published.

How to Submit a Guest Post

  • Send your post to htownseo at gmail dot com
  • Attach one or more relevant pictures, along with any necessary image credits.
  • Please add the necessary tags for proper WordPress formatting.
  • Limit links to your projects to your byline. You may link to credible relevant resources within the body of the content.
  • Don’t add any affiliate links
  • Your submission should include your author byline, along with an email address attached to your Gravatar image. You can include 2 links to your projects, along with 1 link to a social profile. For example, a link to your website homepage, a link to your blog and a link to your Twitter account.
  • If your post is published, comment replies to it will be emailed to you. If you do not join in on the discussion within 48 hours by replying to your post’s comments, the links in your byline will be removed.

How Soon Will I Know If My Guest Post Has Been Accepted?

Generally, I’ll let you know within 48 hours whether or not I plan to publish your post. Occasionally, my response may take a bit longer.

If I accept your post, plan for it to be published within 1 to 2 weeks. I’ll let you know once I choose a specific posting date.

If you have any other questions about guest posting, feel free to shoot me an email.

Within weeks of hiring Gerald, he quadrupled my web traffic. He seems to be virtual friends with just about everyone on the Internet, and he knows how things work. I also seriously think he might work at his computer 24-7 because it never takes more than 30 seconds for him to respond to any question I might have. If you have a website that you need optimized, he's your man.
